Abstract

The article examines the cultural and educational activities of the Legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen as a unique phenomenon in the history of the Ukrainian military movement. The peculiarities of the functioning of the “Artystychna horstka” and the “Presova kvartyra”, which became centers of artistic, publishing and educational work in the rifle community, are revealed. The purpose of the article is to comprehensively study the activities of the “Artystychna horstka” of the Ukrainsky sichovi striltsi.

The research methods are based on the principles of historicism, objectivity, systematicity and complexity. The contribution of writers, artists, musicians, photographers and theater figures to the formation of national consciousness, the popularization of the idea of ​​Ukrainian statehood and the preservation of the historical memory of the Legion is analyzed. Special attention is paid to the rifle press, songwriting, field orchestra, photography, fine arts and composer activity. The role of cultural activity in maintaining the fighting spirit of the riflemen, the spiritual consolidation of society and the formation of Ukrainian national identity in the conditions of the First World War is highlighted. The results of the study indicate that the artistic heritage of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen has become an important source for the reconstruction of everyday life, the combat path and the cultural environment of the legion.Conclusions. The activities of the "Artystychna horstka" and the "Presova kvartyra" indicate a high level of organization and awareness of the importance of cultural work. The study confirms that the legion's cultural and educational work was no less important than its participation in hostilities, because it was thanks to art that the idea of ​​Ukrainian independence was established among the population.
