Informatization of Archival Affairs in Ukraine (Using the Example of the State Archives of Ivano-Frankivsk Region)

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the current state and prospects of informatization of archival affairs in Ukraine using the example of the State Archives of Ivano-Frankivsk region.

The research methodology is based on the principles of historicism, scientificity, comprehensiveness and a systematic approach to the analysis of electronic sources. Both general scientific (quantitative analysis and synthesis) and special historical (scientific heuristics, comparative, historical-genetic) methods were used.

The article focuses on the concept of informatization of archival affairs, outlines its legislative basis, theoretical principles and practical aspects. In the context of the latter, the website of the State Archives of Ivano-Frankivsk region is analyzed, in particular its e-archive section, where a significant source complex of archive documents, reference equipment (descriptions of archive document funds), directories, guides, annotated indexes, etc. is located. The article also outlines a system of measures aimed at activating the process of copying and publishing archive documents on its official website.

The author concludes that attempts to introduce information technologies, which began in the USA and Western Europe in the middle of the 20th century, gained real effectiveness only in the 90s of the 20th century, which was directly related to the development of the World Wide Web. At the end of the 20th - beginning of the 21th century, websites of modern archival institutions were created, which contained brief information about the history and subject matter of documents of a particular archive, guides and reference books were placed on the Internet, which significantly simplified the search for necessary documents for researchers. Using the example of the State Archives of Ivano-Frankivsk Region, we can argue that modern archival institutions have made significant progress in the field of informatization, significantly increasing the informative component of their websites for both researchers working with archive documents and other citizens using the services of the archival institution
