The relevance of this study is determined by the rapid expansion of metaverse technologies and their increasing influence on sociocultural processes, communication, and digital identity. The challenges of the information age highlight the urgent need to develop new approaches to ethical user behavior, since ethical responsibility serves as the foundation for trust, security, and the harmonious development of digital culture.
The purpose of the research is to clarify the essence of ethical responsibility among metaverse users as a fundamental component in the formation of digital culture. Particular attention is given to the theoretical foundations, identification of key risks and challenges in the virtual environment, and the development of an algorithm for shaping users’ ethical behavior in the context of digital culture development.
Methods. The study employs systemic and structural-functional approaches, along with methods of analysis, synthesis, comparison, and generalization. These tools made it possible to conduct a comprehensive examination of the ethical foundations of digital interaction, to identify risks and threats for metaverse users, and to propose practice-oriented mechanisms for overcoming them.
Results. The research substantiates the essence of users’ ethical responsibility as a key element of digital culture that integrates moral, legal, and social dimensions. The main risks and challenges are systematized, including manipulation, disinformation, threats to privacy, and the emergence of dependency, all of which arise in the metaverse and undermine the ethicality of digital practices. An algorithm for shaping users’ ethical behavior is proposed, encompassing the stages of awareness, education, regulation, practical implementation, monitoring, and institutionalization of digital culture.
Conclusions. The study demonstrates that ethical responsibility is a decisive factor in the development of modern digital culture. The formation of ethical practices among metaverse users promotes the evolution of responsible digital citizenship, strengthens trust and security in the virtual environment, and contributes to sustainable cultural development. The findings can be applied to the design of digital ethics strategies, educational programs, and regulatory frameworks aimed at fostering an ethical digital culture.
