Abstract

The article analyses examples of the use of «living history» elements in contemporary museums. Particular attention is paid to museums that offer a unique experience of immersion in the past. The author aims to trace the peculiarities of using «living history» tools in contemporary museums, as well as their impact on visitors, the growing popularity of museum institutions, etc.

The research methodology is based on the principles of historicism, scientificity, objectivity and systematicity. Both general scientific (analysis, synthesis, generalisation) and special historical (historical-genetic and historical-systemic) methods were used.

The article examines the work of the interactive museum «City and Weapons» in Ivano-Frankivsk, the Stepan Bandera Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Museum of the Liberation Struggle, the Museum of Ethnography of the National Reserve «Ancient Halych» in the village of Krylos, the Memorial Museum of Totalitarian Regimes «Territory of Terror», the Museum «Living History» (Konopnytsia village, Pustomyty district, Lviv region) and others.

It is noted that even traditional museums are increasingly using elements of «living history» when working with visitors, especially with schoolchildren and students. The use of copies of historical artefacts, reconstructions, theatrical tours, interactive technologies, costume events and thematic photo shoots helps to create the effect of immersion and active participation of visitors in the process of learning.

According to the author, the use of living history elements allows modern museums not only to become closer to visitors and attract a wider range of guests, but also to actively promote historical and cultural heritage.
