The educational and publishing activities of Dragan Tsankov in the mid-ХІХth century.

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the early stage of Dragan Tsankov’s activities during the 1850s, the formation of his socio-political and cultural-educational views, as well as his role in the development of Bulgarian printing and journalism in the mid-nineteenth century. Particular attention is paid to the establishment of a printing house, the founding of the society Obshchina na Balgarskata Knizhnina, and the publishing activities of the journal Balgarski Knizhitsi. The study demonstrates that Tsankov’s activities played a significant role in the consolidation of the Bulgarian intelligentsia, the dissemination of national education, and the formation of modern Bulgarian national consciousness. It is evident that his publishing and journalistic initiatives became an important factor in the development of Bulgarian culture and public opinion, while his cooperation with Western European circles and support for Catholic missions substantially influenced the evolution of his political views in subsequent years.
