The article is devoted to the philosophical conceptualisation of the formal and semantic aspects of the symbol within the context of twenty-first-century digital culture. The study analyses the transformation of processes of symbolisation under the influence of algorithmic mediation, the development of artificial intelligence, networked forms of communication, and digital media. It is argued that, within the contemporary informational environment, the symbol ceases to function merely as a representational sign and instead emerges as a dynamic, hybrid, and processual structure of meaning-generation. Particular attention is devoted to the relationship between the formal dimension of the symbol, associated with algorithmic processing, computability, and functioning within digital systems, and the semantic dimension, determined by interpretation, experience, intentionality, and cultural context. The article systematises contemporary approaches to the analysis of the symbol within analytical, phenomenological, and metamodern paradigms. It is demonstrated that the analytical tradition emphasises the possibility of formalising symbolic structures and interprets the symbol as an element of an algorithmic system; however, it simultaneously reveals the limitations of purely syntactic manipulation of symbols without consideration of their semantic dimension. The phenomenological approach foregrounds embodiment, affectivity, and intersubjectivity in processes of symbolisation, demonstrating that even digital symbols remain rooted in the subject’s lifeworld. The metamodern perspective interprets the symbol as an oscillatory structure functioning between form and meaning, algorithm and experience, irony and sincerity. Special attention is also devoted to the problem of narrative ontology and the role of the symbol in the construction of memory, identity, and collective experience. It is argued that, within digital culture, the symbol functions as a node of meaning within networked and narrative structures, while the process of symbolisation acquires a distributed character through the participation of algorithms and machine agents in the production of cultural forms. Contemporary Ukrainian and international philosophical studies of the symbol are analysed, demonstrating a transition from classical semiotics towards a comprehensive understanding of symbolisation as a process arising from the interaction between human beings, technology, and the digital environment. The conclusions substantiate that, in the digital age, the symbol acquires the status of a multidimensional structure integrating formal, semantic, narrative, and technological dimensions. Prospects for further research are associated with the analysis of techno-intentionality, the ethical aspects of algorithmic meaning-generation, and the transformation of collective consciousness under conditions shaped by the development of artificial intelligence.
