Abstract

The article comprehensively analyzes the revival and restoration of the activities of the Orthodox monastery of the Manyavsky Hermitage in the 20th–21st centuries in modern Ukrainian historiography. The works of leading modern Ukrainian researchers who devoted their scientific research and explorations to the history of the Manyavsky Hermitage as an important center of monasticism, spirituality and culture of the Carpathian region, a sacred monument, are characterized. It is found that through the efforts of scientists of the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University under the leadership of Professor M. Kugutyak, significant research work has been carried out to study the history of the Manyavsky Hermitage. Special attention is paid to the research of the famous historian M. Kugutyak on the Ukrainian Athos, which laid the modern foundation for the archaeological and historical understanding of the Hermitage. The reflection of the restoration of the monastery's activities in monographs, encyclopedic articles, local history explorations, general works, and reviews is highlighted. It is stated that despite the significant number of works on the history of the Manyavsky Hermitage in modern scientific Ukrainian research on its recent history, revival and role in the life of the region and Ukraine since 1998, information is fragmentary and sporadic. Mainly, scientific research indicates the transfer of the Great Hermitage to the UOC-KP, the consecration of the Cross Exaltation Cathedral, the return of icons, the holding of all-Ukrainian annual pilgrimages and pilgrimages in the monastery. Little studied in scientific works is the course of events that reconstructs the dialogue between the church and the authorities regarding the change of purpose and owner of the monastery, the circumstances of the revival. We consider further comprehensive research of the modern diverse activities of the Carpathian monastery (cultural, charitable, volunteer, etc.), the realization of the recreational and tourist potential of the Manyavsky Hermitage to be promising.
