Abstract

The article presents the figure of doctor Felix Selskyi and his contribution to the development of Ukrainian and world medicine. The purpose of the article is to comprehensively study the personal contribution of the Ukrainian doctor, scientist, and public figure Felix Selskyi to the development of domestic and world medicine and medical science. When preparing the research, we used a complex of general scientific methods – historical, chronological, comparative, synthesis and analysis, adhered to the principles of historicism and scientific objectivism. The use of different methods and wide source base allowed to reveal the purpose of the study, to obtain relevant results and draw conclusions. The path of Felix Selskyi to obtaining a through medical education, his studies and public activities among Ukrainian students in Vienna are analyzed in detail. The medical work in Lviv, in particular, in the obstetrics and gynecology department of the Regional General Hospital, is studied. He was a co-founder of a free clinic and accepted patients until his departure from Lviv. Even after retirement, the doctor continued to help women during childbirth, conducted preventive examinations, and supported the aspirations of young people to pursue a medical career. In addition to medical practice, he was engaged in scientific research in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, primarily in progressive methods of treating uterine pathology, wrote articles in Ukrainian, and was the first to introduce Ukrainian-language professional terminology. As a scientist, Felix Selskyi was a full member of the Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society, and from 1898 to 1901 he headed the Medical section of this society. The scientific novelty of the study lies in its complexity, as we present the multifaceted manifestations of the activities of the Ukrainian doctor Felix Selskyi, his contribution to the development of Ukrainian and world medicine, as well as the improvement of public health.
