The purpose of the study is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the life path of Princess Halshka (Elizaveta) Ostrozka and to determine how her dramatic fate influenced the formation of the value orientations, political decisions, and cultural-educational activities of Prince Vasyl-Kostiantyn Ostrozkyi, as well as the development of the family identity of the Ostrozkyi dynasty. The research applies the principles of historicism, objectivity, and critical source analysis. Problem-chronological, comparative-historical, biographical, and historiographical methods are employed. The study attempts to reconstruct the life of the legendary representative of the Ostrozkyi princely family—Princess Halshka Ostrozka—and to examine the role of Prince Vasyl-Kostiantyn Ostrozkyi in his niece’s fate. Special attention is paid to the family relations of the magnate nobility of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Ruthenia and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. A new approach to analyzing the Ostrozkyi dynasty is proposed through the concept of “family karma,” which allows for revealing the interconnection between personal tragedies, collective memory, and the socio-political activities of the dynasty’s representatives. Several biographical aspects have been clarified, lesser-known interpretations of sources have been introduced into scholarly discourse, and a new model for understanding Halshka Ostrozka’s role in shaping the cultural and educational strategy of the prince is offered. The study of Halshka Ostrozka’s life demonstrates the complex interplay of personal will, family conflicts, and political circumstances within the Ostrozkyi House in the mid-sixteenth century. Her struggle for inheritance, forced marriages, and long periods of isolation shaped her character and highlighted the significant role of women in the political and cultural life of the nobility. Halshka’s legacy, including her contribution to the development of the Ostroh Academy and her support of Orthodox and educational institutions, serves as an important source for understanding the formation of the cultural space of Eastern Europe and illustrates the considerable influence of women within the Ostrozkyi family.
