The ancient cosmographic system of the ‘seven climata’: search for ways to rethink it in the modern world

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyse the ancient cosmographic theory of the ‘seven climata’ and its later version, created by medieval Arab scholars, based on the opinion of scientists about the beginning of the transition from the substrate-matter to the substance-field paradigm of cognition. The task was to prove that many ancient cosmographic works contain not only a substantive but also a field component, which was to be investigated. Conventional research methods do not give a true picture of what Klimata is. The author applied an interdisciplinary approach and, using the achievements of modern philosophy and physics in combination with the analysis of sources based on a hermeneutical approach, solved the problems of the work and achieved its goal. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that the system of ‘seven climata’ is considered speculative by researchers and studied only in geographical and astronomical aspects, and not in a full-fledged cosmographic one, which is explained precisely by the lack of a field component in the modern paradigm of humanities. Results. By changing the research methodology, an attempt is made to rethink this system and show what it really was, despite all the shortcomings of its research and description by ancient authors. The article expands the current understanding of the planet's space and shows how it is possible to use ancient cosmographic sources to investigate problems that modern science is only beginning to dare to talk about. Conclusions. Thanks to the interdisciplinary approach, it has been established that the system of ‘seven klimata’ can be an objective phenomenon of the non-physical form of matter, one of the structures of the planet's information fields, although the ancient authors comprehended it in the traditions of their cultures and at the level of science that existed in their time.
