The Impact of Digital Technologies on Language Norms and Stylistics in the Context of Communication Transformation in New Media

Abstract

In today's world, where digital technologies are actively penetrating all aspects of life, language norms are undergoing significant changes due to the latest communication platforms, such as social networks, blogs and mobile applications, which create new forms of interaction. These communication formats have a significant impact on the style and grammatical structure of the language. The high speed of information exchange and the limitations on the number of characters facilitate linguistic experimentation, which in turn leads to the emergence of new lexical items, the transformation of syntactic structures and changes in traditional grammatical norms. The study of these changes is important for a deeper understanding of how digital technologies are shaping the modern linguistic environment and what new language norms may emerge in this dynamic context. The article uses the literature review method to analyse the main characteristics of speech in new media, including word shortening, the use of emojis, slang expressions and non-standard punctuation. Considerable attention is paid to the impact of technology on the economy of speech, which is manifested in the tendency to simplify sentences and structures, as well as to reduce the importance of traditional grammatical rules. The results of the analysis revealed social and cultural factors that influence the formation of new language norms. Audiovisual elements, the multimedia nature of communications, and the personal nature of online interaction are leading to an increase in informality in speech, which may affect the sustainability of established language standards. The conclusions emphasise the importance of preserving language culture in the context of the active introduction of digital technologies, and also highlight the need to adapt educational programmes to new realities in order to provide students and communicators with the skills to navigate the changing linguistic landscape. Possible directions for further research are suggested and recommendations for linguists on monitoring changes in language norms in the period of digitalisation are given.
