Hermeneutics of security discourses in the context of intercultural communication

Abstract

In the modern conditions of globalization, security discourses serve not only to inform about threats but also to shape interpretations of social reality. The variability of cultural contexts shapes differences in the perception of security meanings, underscoring the need to identify mechanisms for interpreting and transforming them in the global space. The purpose of the study is to conceptualize the hermeneutics of security discourses in the context of intercultural communication by identifying their typological characteristics, clarifying interpretative mechanisms and analyzing the patterns of semantic transformations. The methodological basis is a hermeneutic, discursive and comparative approach, which allows us to explore the relationship between the text, context and the subject of interpretation, as well as elements of content analysis to generalize empirical examples. Results. A typology of security discourses was developed, taking into account cultural contexts, dominant narratives and linguistic markers, which enabled us to identify the variability of security meanings. The stages of interpreting security messages in a hermeneutic perspective were summarized, thereby substantiating their dynamic nature and their dependence on the interpreter's previous experience and cultural attitudes. It was established that the transformation of security meanings in intercultural communication is primarily determined by differences in cultural codes, value orientations and the dominant narratives within which messages function. It was found that the same security messages acquire different meanings depending on the cultural context of interpretation, as evidenced by changes in evaluative characteristics (from legitimation to delegitimization, from protection to restriction, etc.). It was found that the key factors in such transformations are the audience's prior experience, socio-political conditions, and the specifics of the media environment. Conclusions. It has been established that the interpretation of security discourses is contextually determined and directly depends on the cultural framework within which communication takes place. Semantic shifts that arise in the process of intercultural interaction can pose communicative risks, particularly the multidirectional interpretation of security messages. This indicates the importance of considering cultural specificity when crafting security messages and justifies the feasibility of using a hermeneutic approach to their analysis. The practical significance of the results lies in their potential to inform strategies for public and international communication aimed at minimizing semantic distortions and enhancing mutual understanding.
