Abstract

The relevance of this topic is determined by the need to rethink the social responsibility of television during a time of informational challenges, wartime realities, and the growing role of public broadcasters in the consolidation of society. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the ethical paradigm of television directing as a tool of cultural communication and to present the author’s methodology of the Ethical Directorial Narrative (EDN), which integrates humanistic, professional, and technological dimensions of the creative process. The methodological framework is based on the principles of ethical analysis, structural-functional and comparative approaches, as well as observation, generalization, and artistic-documentary modeling. The study reveals the significance of the documentaries “Watch in Ukrainian!” and “Hellish Assignment” as examples of socially oriented directing that combine factual truth, empathy, and cultural mission. The results of the research confirmed that ethical directing is not only a professional competence but also a value-based code of contemporary television, which defines its moral quality and social mission. Within this concept, artistic expression does not contradict truth but rather amplifies it, creating conditions for a deeper emotional understanding of reality. The ethical approach in directing transforms the very nature of the television product – from an instrument of influence into a medium of fostering trust, empathy, and cultural self-awareness within society. The proposed Ethical Directorial Narrative (EDN)methodology establishes a comprehensive mechanism for implementing moral principles in the creative process – from topic selection and dramaturgical structure to communication with the audience. Its practical application enables the creation of content in which fact and emotion, reality and artistry coexist harmoniously, ensuring both emotional authenticity and audience trust. The results of testing this methodology in the documentaries “Watch in Ukrainian!” and “Hellish Assignment”demonstrate that ethical directing can become an effective instrument of social dialogue and cultural unity, promoting the affirmation of humanistic values, the preservation of national memory, and the strengthening of public media as a space for shared reflection.
