Abstract

It is noted that at the current stage of the formation of a sovereign democratic Ukraine, one of the main tasks is to determine the landmarks of state building, and accordingly, the need to study and critically understand the historical and scientific-historical heritage of Ukrainian figures of the early 20th century is growing. The article analyzes the conservative ideas of V. Lypynsky as a factor in modern processes of Ukrainian state formation.

Methods. The study uses theoretical methods (analysis, synthesis, abstraction, induction, deduction), empirical methods (description), and a comparative method, in particular, a comparison of the conservative ideas of V. Lypynsky and the views of representatives of the modern Ukrainian conservative tradition.

Results. According to V. Lypynsky, the path to a full-fledged Ukrainian nation lies through the revival of the conservative tradition and the renewal of conservative circles at the expense of active representatives of Ukrainians. It is emphasized that the researcher considered territorial patriotism to be the most effective basis for unity - the solidarity of all permanent residents of the Ukrainian land, regardless of ethnic origin, social status or religion, which laid the foundations of the modern concept of a political nation. It is indicated that V. Lypynsky considered the “landed class of farmers” to be the key state-building force, that is, the owners-producers organically connected with the land. The emphasis is placed on the fact that V. Lypynsky paid significant attention to religious moral ideas, considering them the main consolidating factors of the Ukrainian nation.

Conclusions. It is noted that with regard to the state system, V. Lypynsky advocated the model of hereditary monarchy with the hetman as a symbol of national unity. He singled out five foundations of statehood: aristocracy, classocracy, territorial patriotism, Ukrainian conservatism and religious ethos. It is emphasized that modern Ukrainian conservatives, recognizing the impossibility of restoring the monarchy, mostly support the republican system. At the same time, they preserve the key principles of the Lypynsky tradition - the priority of statehood, the national idea, moral and religious values as the foundation of social consolidation.
